Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• UK trailer manufacturer Crane Fruehauf is "going through a boom period" — particularly with exports — according to sales manager and marketing director Barry Fiske.

Following the growing interest among vehicle manufacturers in the relatively unexploited Chinese market, CF expects to supply over 350 40-tonne capacity 12m tandemaxle platform trailers, worth some £5.5 milion, to China by the end of 1987.

CF has won orders in China against stiff competition from Japanese, Australian and Taiwanese manufacturers, reports Fiske, The company also hopes to expand its sales base in China with bulk tipping trailers. Five have already been supplied for demonstration, and Fiske expects further orders to follow. For 1988, CF has set a Chinese sales target of 550 trailers of all types.

Despite the depressed state of the middle east tractive unit market, CF has won new business in the United Arab Emirates and plans to sell 30 trailers in the UAE by the end of the year.

As a long established supplier to the Middle East market, Crane Fruehauf is also picking up business in the semi-trailer spares sector, which Fiske estimates will earn the company in excess of 2500,000 this year.

CF is also increasing its presence in Portugal and will sell around 150 step-frame TIR tilts there during 1987.

Fiske says the UK market will continue to grow in 1987, and predicts that CV's turnover during the year will be in excess of £50 million. The company "will also improve its profitability over last year — we will supply well in excess of 3,000 units in 1987."

• Northampton-based Travis and Arnold has taken delivery of one of the first FA1900 INS 16-tonners on British roads.

The company distributes timber, forest products and building materials to the construction industry and the new vehicle will be used to improve the expanding distribution service at Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire.
