• Federal Express, the UK subsidiary of the Americanbased Federal Express Corporation, has bought the road transport operations of the Williams Transport Group from Clyde Shipping.
Last year Williames Transport, which operates in Northern Ireland and Eire had a turnover of .£4 rnilion. The airfreight side of the business has not been included in the purchase price and will remain under Clyde Shipping's control.
Williarnes Transport will continue to operate as an autonomous business under managing director Alan Cunningham and becomes a sister company of Federal Express's two existing UK divisions, Federal Express Priority Services and Federal Express Systemline.
The company has been Priority Services' exclusive delivery agent in Northern Ireland and Eire for several years, providing both next-day and regular services. It also carries out specialist distribution in Ireland for a number of household names.
