training proposal
ERE IS no case for the establishment of a training board designed encompass all heavy goods vehicle operators, the Freight Transrt Association has told the Manpower Services Commission.
training boards are to conJe they should be industry;ed rather than regional or oc)ational, says FTA. No corny would want to deal with re than one board and there )uld be greater emphasis on accountability of the board he industry, it claims.
be Association stresses that atever scheme of funding is eed, there has to be a statue limit to the amount of levy ich would be raised from -npanies certainly no her than the existing one per t of payroll.
TA points out that a call for the establishment of a training board for all hgv operators has previously never been supported by the major industries concerned.
"It is a fallacy that the large section of industry which falls within FTA's scope does not train any of its hgv drivers and depends entirely on training carried out by road haulage companies.
"There is no evidence that poaching of drivers takes place over and above the normal movement of personnel in the market-place," says FTA.
