Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I WAS AMUSED to read The Hawk's pithy report of my comments at the "West Midland area dinner" (CM, March 28). Actually they were made in the East Midlands but I have often wondered whether The Hawk knew his port from his starboard.

I did follow on to say that "unless hauliers quoted an economic rate, which included the necessary element of depreciation, each of us was poorer by anything between £30 and £100 plus for every vehicle operated than when we woke up on Monday morning and it would be neither helpful to members nor their customers if hauliers are not in a financial position to have suitable vehicles available when the recession comes to an end".

In view of the gloom and doom in your news extra on page 25 of the same issue it would appear that these comments have taken on an additional significance.
