A GEARBOX test rig installed recently in Strathclyde Passeng Transport Executive's Larkfield works in Glasgow is claimed make considerable savings by extending the life of bus gearboxes.

The rig is being used by PTE engineers for the light running ar testing of overhauled gearboxes, so eliminating the need to remo' faulty units from buses.

Strathclyde PTE's engineering department has carried out exte sive research in the last 18 months aimed at extending the life ar improving the reliability of gearboxes which has led to a 25 per ce reduction in failures.
