Esso Lubricants (No 72) operates a full oil supply and support service which begins with a customer survey to establish exact requirements, maintenance levels and storage needs. Designated area managers and field technicians are assigned and deal promptly with any problems.

Technical queries are dealt with at Esso's Research Centre in Abingdon and day-today enquiries can be handled by the technical desk. Esso operates Extracare, an oil analysis service and can organise a vehicle maintenance schedule tailored to your needs.

Mobil Oil runs a Workshop Support Programme (No 73) which can incorporate finance arrangements, the free loan of essential workshop equipment (including bulk tanks) over the contract period, workshop design facilities, waste oil management and specific help with operating and maintaining the systems.

In addition customers can also call upon the EM/PA oil condition monitoring service carried out through Mobil's own NAMAS-approved laboratory. There is a mobile diesel diagnostic service as an additional support programme—trained technicians will come to you.

Onto( Fuels (No 741 offers a full technical back-up service for users of its oils, including oil analysis. Being a smaller producer, the company stresses that, as a general rule, it does not get involved in the supply of heavy workshop equipment but it is open to discussions on a one-off basis. Contracts can be agreed and the company is willing to negotiate with potential customers about other benefits. Shell Oils (No 75) makes its lubricants available through a advanced oil management package designed to meet all workshop requirements.

A full technical support and assistance scheme takes care of lubricant types and the environments in which they are to be used. A plant audit provides advice about suggested equipment and efficiency improvements while the availability of Shell's practical Lubecube, a 1,000-litre pallet-mounted oil container, can help significantly with storage problems. Shell Care is an oil analysis service offered as part of the arrangement and customers can also make use of selected free loan equipment. Finance is available too and Shell Servo is a servicing records programme intended to improve workshop efficiency. Total BDS 2000 Workshop Scheme (No 761 was launched about a year ago. It offers workshops a wide range of new business development options including financial support, computer-aided workshop design, preventative maintenance contracts and 24-hour breakdown cover as part of a lubricants supply contract. The scheme will also provide assistance in gaining ISO 9000 accreditation and Total can offer an equipment calibration service that complies with BS 5750 standards. A computerised delivery service ensures a fast, efficient response to orders and BPS 2000 offers full technical support. Oil analysis is carried out at Total's Ferrybridge laboratories and advice on environmental and waste oil disposal issues is readily available to meet the requirements of the EPA.
