• Sun has an R&D team working on diesel diagnostics and expects to have a system ready in about two years. If it cannot get the information required for diagnosis from the vehicle manufacturers, the systems will be reverse engineered.
About 70% of Sun's output of diagnostic equipment for petrol engines is sold to independent workshops.
F The DTI is concerned that vehicle manufacturers will use a loophole in the proposed changes to block exemption in order not to release technical information. Exemptions to the need for disclosure are that the information is secret knowhow or covered by industrial property rights.
