Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ten out of 25 trucks stopped in a multi-agency check near the scene of the Sowerby Bridge disaster have been issued with prohibitions; three of them were immediate.

The check, on 9 March, was demanded by North Eastern LA Keith Waterworth.

Two of the immediate prohibitions were for defective tyres; the third was for a loose propshaft. The delayed prohibitions were imposed for defects includ ing steering defects, oil leaks and faulty load sensing valves.

One vehicle did not have an 0-licence, two were untaxed and two had defective tachos.

Waterworth said the check was designed to reassure residents in the Sowerby area. "1 want the hauliers to know that every day of the week similar checks are being carried out in the North East Traffic division," he says. "We will not tolerate skimping on maintenance."
