Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A haulier who signed up for a fuel card because it promised cheaper diesel has slammed the company involved because it has been charging him more than forecourt prices.

Clive Titley of Kidderminster, who runs two tippers on site clearance work, says his wife Barbara only noticed the discrepancy in charges on their Diesel UK card when she went through the accounts.

Titley always uses the same garage to fill up and spends about £300 a month on fuel. He was surprised to find that he was paying lp a litre above pump price to use the card. "We only took on the card because the literature promised low prices—well below agency and forecourt rates'. It would have been cheaper to use a normal credit card," says Mrs Titley.

Diesel UK says the firm sets a national sliding scale of prices each week, depending on the volume of fuel used. Mrs Titley says she complained to a manager at Diesel UK who offered to refund the difference.

Diesel UK will not comment on whether it offered to refund any difference between its price and that paid by Titley.
