• Hays' financial division has given notice in its latest set of results that its profits are set to jump thanks to increased business levels.

In results posted last week by its parent Hays plc, the distribution division showed a 13% rise in operating profit to £26.4m for the half-year to 31 December. Contract gains—which are running at an annualised turnover of £20m—have been particularly strong in the division's Continental businesses but their start-up costs are reflected in the latest results.

Hays says: "Significant profits are expected from the new contracts in the next financial year."
