• A Dundee lorry driver has been fined 2400 for losing his load of steel girders on one of the city's busiest roundabouts.

The driver admitted driving with a load of girders inadequately secured by rotten canvas and nylon webbing straps which could have led to injury. The sherriff did not ban the driver from driving: while his employer was not prosecuted, the sherriff described the company as "more blameworthy" than the driver.

According to the Freight Transport Association a load cannot be proved to be insecure unless it falls off. The FTA says that tougher load security regs would be too restrictive.
