• Ownership of truck rental and contract hire company Intertraii has switched to the French bank Societe Generale.
The move gives the bank direct control of a UK truck rental company which it previously owned through one of its subsidiaries, Socgen Lease of Milton Keynes.
Intertrail's managing director John Goodreid says the bank took direct control of the Stoke-on-Trent company to secure a springboard into UK contract hire, which it sees as a fast growing market.
Societe Generale plans to invest several million pounds in Intertrail this year, and sales are predicted to double within the next 10 months_ The company is on the acquisition trail and talks are underway with specialist rental firms. Last November the company said it planned to double its fleet to 1,400 vehicles (CM 3-9 November 1988). Goodreid says that target should be reached this year.
Intertrail was set up about four years ago and taken over by Socgen Lease in 1987. It has a workforce of 36, depots in Widnes, Birmingham, Bristol and Stoke-on-Trent, and an office in London.
