graphs soon, facilities will be unable to cope with the massive retrospective fitting demand. Although current tachographs do not meet the existing specification demanded by the new EEC standard, the Minister for Transport Industries, Mr John Peyton, has recently clarified the position.
Mr Peyton has publicly stated that he will shortly present to Parliament legislation giving him statutory powers to obtain type approval for existing tachographs which are in use until 1980. Thus, a tachograph fitted today will be legal for the next seven years at least.
