rONCENTRATION of the present Is-, municipal passenger transport undertakings in Lancashire into three systems controlled by area boards was urged by Mr. Ellis Smith, M.P., at a meeting of the Institute of Traffic Administration in Manchester on Monday. He suggested that one, with its centre in Manchester, should cover places as far afield as Bolton, Leigh, Stockport and Warrington. Liverpool would be linked with Birken
head, St. Helens and neighbouring authorities whilst Preston would take in Blackburn, Blackpool, Lancaster and Barrow. Amalgamation would bring an increased return per vehicle, he contended.
The Minister of Transport had indicated that if Lancashire local authorities wished to combine their passenger services he sympathized with the idea, but the initiative should come from them.
