A Complete Range of Chassis Built up with Units of Well-known American Make.

WE MAY SHORTLY expect the arrival Irons America of several models of the Larrabee-Deyo chassis, as the export agent for this make of chassis is now in London for the purpose of appointing concessionnaires. Concerns interested should apply to Mr. W. D. Blood, care of the American Consul, 18, Cavendish Square, W. 1.

Larrabee chassis cover a range of from to 5 tons. We propose in this article

to deal in particular with -the 4-ton model, but will point out the few slight differences of construction as between this and the larger models.

Except as regards strength of construetion, the chief difference lies in the engine, which in the 4, 2, and 2-i ton models is a Continental Red Seal, with the cylinders east in pairs, whilet in the heavier model a Continental engine with the cylinders cast en bloc is employed. The smallest model is provided with three speeds and the larger with four. The chassis are ULM op from welltried components produced by the best American manufacturers.

The clutch, which is built up as a unit with the engine, and the gearboe of each model are of Broiwn andeLipe manufacture, whilst the worm-driven rear axles areproducts of the, Sheldon factory. It should be noted that,'as is the case with practically all American. chassis, the actual load-capying capacity is consider.

To proceed with the description of the 11-tonner, the engine has a bore and stroke of 3,1 ins. and 5 ins, respectively: The lubrication is by pump and big-end troughs, and the circulation of the cooling -water by centrifugal pump situated

at the offside of the engine, between the timing gears and the magneto. The shaft by which it is driven is extended to drive the magneto through the medium of a flexible joint. All the valves are positioned at the near side, and the tappets, etc., are enclosed by two plates. Carburation is attended to by a Stromberg carburetter provided with an exhaust-heated air inlet. Thegovernor is situated on

timing geaxcase, and controls an auxiliary throttle through the medium of a flexible shaft.

The drive is taken through a multiple dry disc clutch to the three-speed-and reverse gearbox which is situated amid e ships, thus reducing the length of the rear Garden shaft. 'The gearbox is supported by two strong cross-members.

The back axle is of very stout construction. It consists of a steel casting, the squared ends of which act as spring seats through which the spring II -bolts pass.

The worm, worm wheel, and differential are supported by a detachable cover. Both brakes operate on the rear wheel drums. The springs are of exceptional strength, especially those at the rear, through which the driving and braking stresses are taken.

The frame is constructed of pressed steel channels, straight throughout, but tapered towards the dumb irons. The wheels, which ' are -of the wood artillery type, are provided with single solids . throughout, though pneumaticscati.be provided at an extra cost. The steering gear is of the worm and nut type, of Ross manufacture, the tiebar being situated behind the front axle. The control levers are centrally positioned.

A round petrol tank with a fuel capacity of 15 gallons is situated at the top of the dash. Chassis of Larrabee make are well known in America, and are employed by the Standard Oil Co. as oil tank 'wagons. They are also employed by several concerns assmotor omnibuses, and in this connection axe fitted with bothyneumatio

and solid tyre's. For municipal work, street-sprinkling bodies can be fitted. If required the larger models can be fitted with steel wheels, which appeal to users in this country, as they are totally unaffected by temperature changes.
