How our diet volunteers are taring

Volunteer I

Start weight: 249 lb (17st 11Ib) BMI: 33.8 Weight loss after 3 weeks 12Ibs Target weight: 224 lb (16st) A week's holiday in the Emerald Isle and all that lovely Guinness was always going to put a strain on the diet and it called for some definite restraint well OK, I did have one session. Add to this merriment two birthday parties and you'll understand why I was a touch nervous when I shuffled onto the scales for the weigh-in. But hey what's this? Another four pounds off and a dip under the 17 stone barrier for the first time in yanks to boot! I have been very careful with what I eat, refining the intake all the time. I had been throwing a handful of raisins in with my porridge in the morning until I discovered they were a red coded food now replaced with chopped apple. It's going well and what's more I'm feeling good. Clearly the 220Ib target is some way off yet, but progress is being made.

Volunteer 2

Start weight: 239Ib (17st 11b) BMI: 34.3 Weight loss after 3 weeks 9lbs Target weight: 2151b (15st 51b) Success this week! Another 3Ib has disappeared,

bringing the total weight loss since the beginning to 91b. There are definite signs that my appetite is becoming adjusted lathe new regime. Meals that used to be easily tackled now leave me feeling fuller, earlier. So far, the hardest thing to do without is the occasional fried breakfast. Puddings and betweenmeal snacks of chocolate and biscuits are proving surprisingly easy to forego. A bag of mixed fruit and (raw and unsalted) nuts see off the worst midafternoon cravings, but only in very small doses.

Volunteer 3

Start weight: 219 lb (15st 91b) BMI: 30.7 Weight loss after 3 weeks 8lbs Target weight: 189 lb (13st 71b) Week three weigh-in and I'm two and a half pounds lighter. That's eight pounds lost in total and a shiny silver seven from the Weight Watchers lady for losing the first half stone. After three weeks of trying to lose weight apparently it becomes harder to shed more, so this means a careful and planned reduction in food intake. If this doesn't work I could do some more exercise and there's always the ultimate sacrificelosing my reward bottle of Becks in the evening. Though I have not lost a great deal of weight I feel better and healthier. This is probably due to the feel good factor but if this gives the diet momentum it cannot be a bad thing.
