Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A lorry driver, who caused death, injuries and damage when his vehicle ploughed in to stationary traffic on the M2 motorway, has lost his appeal against a two-year prison sentence — but had his driving ban cut from 15 years to seven.

Michael John Turner, 34, of White Road, Chatham, was jailed and disqualified by Maidstone Crown Court in January, after pleading guilty to causing the death of John Swaffer by reckless driving.

Justice Tudor Evans said in the criminal appeal court in London: "This was an accident with quite devastating consequences." The trial judge described him as an absolute menace on the road on that day. "The two-year sentence cannot be faulted in any way — the maximum is five years — but we are impressed by submissions as to the consequences of the disqualification to him, his employment and his family. A just period is seven years," said Evans.
