Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

several stories about wheels coming loose, falling off, etc, and I remember one technical story in which you listed some of the reasons why.

Well, although I've driven a variety of CVs in my years in the game (no wheels lost yet, luckily!), I don't claim to have any great technical knowledge on the subject, but I was adjusting the chain on my son's moped the other evening and, of course, I had to loosen it's back wheel. It's secured by a castellated nut which can't come loose because it's got a split pin through the wheel spindle.

OK, I know a moped wheel hasn't got much in common with a truck wheel, but I couldn't think of a reason why split pins, lock nuts, nuts with nylon locking inserts, etc, couldn't be used as they are elsewhere on all sorts of other vehicles.

Like I said, I'm no engineer, so maybe someone out there who is could tell me why. Albert Scott Newark, Nottinghamshire.
