• A French lorry driver, who carried on driving after a prohibition had been put on his vehicle, was spotted again by the same traffic examiner, arrested and fined £650.
Silvain Jardin of Douchy-LesManes was fined £650 after admitting breaching a prohibition order, using an overlength vehicle, overloading the drive axle and driving for more than 41/2 hours without taking required breaks.
The court was told that traffic examiner Nigel Pollard had stopped Jardin's vehicle at Wetherby on 18 April and prohibited him from moving for a week. Jardin ignored the prohibition and carried on with his journey. He was spotted by the same traffic examiner who was on duty at a weight check at the Boston Spa weighbridge, and Jardin was arrested. The drive axle of his vehicle weighed some 12,600kg. When measured the artic was found to be 18.85 metres long.
The vehicle was again prohibited and Jardin was fined £300 for breach of the original prohibition order, £200 for overloading the drive axle, £50 for using an over-length vehicle, and £100 for the hours offence. The ban was lifted after the length was reduced by rebuilding the fifth wheel coupling.
