• Northern supermarket chain William Morrison is buying 25 ERF twin-steer 38tonne tractor units with 40 York trailers, partly to service its new distribution warehouse at Wakefield, which opens in September.
The units were supplied by Reliance Garage in Brighouse. William Morrison has 40 supermarkets from Grantham to Newcastle and employs 48 drivers. It plans to have 90% of its distribution fleet in-house within months.
In March the company signed a 27 million deal with Alpine Distribution, designed to centralise its frozen food deliveries.
