and costs by Worcester magistrates, after failing to produce 124 tachographs. Astons of Kempsey (Coaches), Droitwich Executive Goldliner and George and Christine Halford (who trade as Aston Coaches) each admitted five specimen offences for failing to produce tachograph records.
Prosecuting for the West Midland Traffic Area, Nicola Walker said that in August 1987 the three operators had been asked to produce charts from 1 June to 18 July. Having produced 458 charts, later examinations showed 124 charts had been missing.
Defending, Hugh Wagstaffe said that early in 1987 the operations manager had left the defendents and his replacement had resigned shortly afterwards. In March 1987 the tour manager and his assistant had also resigned. The offences took place in the six weeks after the present operations manager took up his post.
The fact that 124 had not been handed in was not noticed by the operations manager, who had not had time to check the charts against the journey sheets.
