• The world's largest exhibition of emergency vehicles and equipment, at Hanover last week, attracted a record number of manufacturers from all over the world, and Britain sent the biggest single foreign contingent.
British-built equipment at "Interschutz '88" included vehicles from Carmichael's, Simon and Fulton & Wylie, who exhibited a Leyland Freighter fire tender used by the Lancashire Fire Service. The County of Avon Fire Service sent a Saxon-bodied Dodge which took part in a live demonstration of current emergency practice.
Styling is of great importance in German emergency equipment and the futuristic Faun LF 2630, powered by twin KHD engines (each producing 265kW) and built to ICAO standards by Ziegler, was a major crowd-puller.
