PRIVATE talks between senior members of Conservative-led Cardiff City Council and National Bus Company subsidiary National Welsh on a possible takeover of the council's municipal bus operation have aroused fears and protests from unions representing the council undertaking and some local groups.
The council policy committee is expected to consider whether to look at the possibility of selling the bus undertaking at its meeting scheduled for June 18.
The Cardiff City Transport fleet is one of Britain's largest municipal transport undertakings and comprises more than 200 buses.
A spokesman for the National Bus Company said that the group has no plans to take over any other municipal operation.
