Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE INSTITUTE of Road Transport Engineers has published a useful, detailed guide to sideguards and rear underrun bumpers. The A4 sized, 12-page booklet has three sections, on what the law says, the practical implications and solutions, and means of bettering the legal minimum.

It has been compiled by the Transport Press Services team which produces the IRTE's monthly journal "Transport Engineer" and contains updated features on the subject which have already appeared in that journal. However one good example of previously unpublished information to be found in the guide, is a chart showing the characteristics of various steel sections that could be used for sideguards.

Though generally right up to date with its information, including what the law actually says and an interpretation of it, the "On Guard" IRTE guide went to press just too late to give consideration to the latest webbing sideguards such as those displayed by Don-Bur at the IRTE exhibition (CM May 26).
