• Local authorities in most rural parts of Scotland now recognized the valuable role they could play in supporting uneconomic bus services, said Mr George Younger, Under-Secretary at the Scottish Office.
He noted that he had drawn the attention of local authorities to the two recent studies into rural transport problems carried out in England, which had suggested various ways in which they could help with the problems of rural services.
