• Advanced courses on urban transport systems and land use are to be provided for senior local government officers at a new School of Advanced Urban Studies to be set up at Bristol University. The Government is also consulting Newcastle, Manchester and Sheffield Universities with a view to establishing similar courses on planning and control of urban areas.
The Bristol school will provide about 80 places and Prof Sir Colin Buchanan is to be director-designate.
• Ribble Motor Services are to redevelop their bus station at Lowther Street, Carlisle. The building will be totally enclosed, but final plans on the scheme have not been decided.
