A Whether the 4-wheeled lorry is legally a "motor car-, that is with an unladen weight not exceeding 3 tons or a "heavy motor carif it is over that amount, the overall width of the vehicle in either case must not exceed 2.5 metres (8ft. 21in. Additionally the load must not project laterally more than one foot on either side while the overall width of vehicle and load must not exceed 9ft. 6in.
Provided notification is given to the police, exemptions are allowed for indivisible loads and loose agricultural produce.
In central London police permission is required to move a load exceeding 8ft. 6in. wide between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
