ESSO's distribution productivity agreement (see page 60) has been handsomely praised by the Prices and Incomes Board in a report published this week.
Although Esso predicted a 6 per cent rise in the demand for petroleum products, the increase was 12 per cent, leading to a sharp rise in the fuel delivered by contractors. Yet during 1966 "the company's own fleet handled all but a fraction of the increase in demand".
The report adds: "The forecast of the potential of the distribution network proved extremely accurate. As new vehicles were introduced the overtime levels reached in the first nine months were reduced, so that the year as a whole saw a very satisfactory beginning for the agreement."
