Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

" A NI, resort with an eye to the future

will study carefully new motorway plans and use their influence with the authorities to ensure there is suitable access to them from their locality. By this is meant not only a feeder road, but a feeder road with adequate capacity for summer traffic." This statement was made by Mr. H. Bottomley, general manager, Ribble Motor Services, Ltd.. when speaking at the summer meeting of the Association of Health and Pleasure Resorts held at Southport on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday.

Mr. Bottornley said that, whereas over existing roads a 3+-hour journey would cover about 90 miles only, motorway travel at an average of 60 m.p.h. would enable 210 miles to be covered in the same time, thereby encouraging holidaymakers to undertake longer journeys.

"The civic authorities in our resorts may well ponder over the exciting possibilities that these improvements could mean to them," he said.

Mr. *Bottomley pointed out that resorts have a right to make suitable representations to the Traffic Commissioners concerning any road services which affect their interests. Resorts should support operators who seek to provide comprehensive services, particularly with respect to the provision of duplicate vehicles.
