LEEDS TO ABANDON BLUE

A LTHOUGH Leeds busesin their livery were described by one councillor as being the most distinctive in the country, the City Council last week approved a proposal by the transport committee to abandon this colour in favour of green for the buses and red for the trams. The chairman of the committee explained that the blue paint faded quickly and that it cost 190 to repaint the buses in a life of 10 years. It would cost only £60 if green paint were used. As the city would be receiving 92 London trams, already painted red, it was decided to choose this colour for the city's trams, and thus reduce the cost of repainting.
