• Lex Transfleet has picked up more work from office equipment firm Spicers as the existing haulage contractor, Exel Logistics, admits that it has found it difficult to compete in the contract-hire sector.

Spicers has awarded the Bristol deal, previously held by Exel, to Lex Transfleet and it is poised to make a decision on its Nottingham contract, which is also held by Exel.

A spokeswoman for Exel says Spicers was originally a BRS contract and, with the sale of the division earlier this year, the account "no longer fits strategically with Exel's core business". Contracts for Spicers in Leeds, Belfast and Bristol were terminated at the renewal stage, she adds.

Lex Transfleet already works for Spicers elsewhere in the UK.

Exel's former BRS depot in Leicester will be closed down tomorrow (17 July).
