• Machins, the Lincolnshirebased food distribution and warehouse specialist, called in the receiver last week after nearly 30 years in business.
The E.8m turnover firm is still operating although receiver Arthur Andersen of Nottingham has laid off "a very limited number of staff." It is trying to find a buyer for the going concern and its assets, including 50 tractors, 85 trailers and a freehold site at Spalding.
Machins' managing director is Charles Garn, who four years ago told the Road Haulage Association conference in Portugal that he would end up as RHA chairman.
