• Irish haulier Blueflite has pulled out of its partnership with West Midlands-based parcels firm The Last Post alleging that the UK firm owes it £6,000.
Blueflite managing director Jerry Kiersey says the deal turned sour in March this year, after 14 months of partnership: "We were unhappy with the service and we have had terrible trouble getting paid."
Kiersey claims that the money has been owed since last September, adding that this was the biggest debt his company has been owed in its 19 years of operation. He adds that Blueflite is not looking for another UK partner. "After spending all that money and time, we are sceptical about the UK industry — the level of indebtedness is appalling," he says. The Last Post said it was not prepared to comment at this stage.
The partnership began in January 1991, when Les Allinson was chief executive of The Last Post.
Kiersey says that his faith in Allinson was one of the reasons the deal was struck in the first place, adding that he still believes there are some excellent people in the UK firm.
Allinson recently relinquished his position at The Last Post, and has been replaced by Clive Appleford, a chartered accountant with 15 years experience in the transport field.
