Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Boalloy is to licence up to eight local bodybuilders to assemble its Fineliner curtainsider from kits. It will allow the company to penetrate the small operator market for the first time, says the management team which bought out the Congletonbased firm from Marling last month.

These hauliers traditionally depend on their dealer to supply a body and do not demand the detailed spec customers for semi-trailers do, says new sales director Jim Gibb. "Licensing small bodybuilders to assemble the kits in this way means we get the synergy of our name and their local reputation and access to the dealers," he adds.

The kits will be sold in 7.5tonne and 17-tonne versions. The Fineliner, which was introduced two years ago in semitrailer form, is a lighter and

cheaper alternative to the Tautliner. A 17-tonne prototype was built on a Volvo chassis earlier this year (CM 23-29 Jan).

Boalloy will supply the cur tains and frame; the bodybuilder the fasteners, floor and sideguards. Gibb stresses the licensees will be "heavily policed, because our reputation is precious".
