Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The old Scammell Motors Plant has been renamed Special Trucks Limited by its owners, the Rover Group. The Watford factory was not included in the recent merger between Leyland and Daf and is scheduled to be closed in the middle of next year with the loss of some 600 jobs.

The Scammell name, however, will live on. When Leyland and Daf merged Leyland bought the name, together with the majority of the current Scammell product range, which will eventually be built at Leyland's main assembly plant when Watford closes.

In the meantime Special Trucks will continue to supply Leyland Daf with its Scammell Constructor eight wheelers, 6x2 Roadtrains and any S26 heavy haulage tractive units. It will also carry on building validation chassis for the £150 million military DROPS contract.

Since the announcement of the proposed closure of Watford, managing director Vic Wilkes has been trying to put together a buyout package.
