GOODYEAR is in the numbers game. It has produced 3 billion tyres since 1900 and now has 44 tyre plants in 27 countries. The cover that marked that magic total was a Unisteel G167LP truck radial —one of 2,300 types and sizes manufactured by Goodyear.

"The G167 tyre is creating some impressive numbers of its own," said Tom H. Barrett, president of the company. Several hauliers had logged more than 300,000 miles with it before the first retread.

The envelope bringing me the glad news addressed me as 935380. It should, of course, have read, "Mr 935380."
