• A Birmingham haulier who was operating only one vehicle on a licence which authorized three vehicles with a margin of three to be acquired, had his licence curtailed under Section 69 when he appeared before the West Midland LA, Mr John Else, in Birmingham this week.

Mr Else curtailed the licence by removing the three vehicles which had not been taken up and the two vehicles which had been scrapped. The operator, Mr D. 0. Small, who trades as D. 0. Small and Son, had been called to the inquiry following an inspection of his vehicle and maintenance arrangements by a DoE vehicle examiner.

Magistrates' convictions in April and December last year for C and U and overloading offences resulted in fines totalling £125 and these were also taken into account by the LA.

Mr Small told the LA that he was operating only one vehicle because business was slack but this vehicle was maintained by a full-time fitter and RHA records were to be introduced.

Curtailing the licence, Mr Else said that as from September 1 he would allow a margin of one vehicle to be introduced.
