Insurance Lesson Learned
THE threat of further and sharper rises in the cost of A motor insurance must alarm all private motorists no less than firms with transport fleets.
My own firm has this month learned a lesson from which others might benefit. We provide our sales representatives with cars, which we have been in the habit of regularly replacing with new vehicles of the same type. For some time we have been receiving requests from our salesmen for larger cars. Instead,of acceding automatically to these requests we stipulated that those who enjoyed an accidentfree year and who returned their cars in good condition would receive a larger car in exchange.
The latest exchange has just taken place. Not only did all our representatives for the first time enjoy a year free of accidents, but every single car was handed over in "mint condition "—which was never previously the case. If every firm in the country adopted the same practice the effect on insurance claims must he significant and thus every motorist in the land would benefit.
Your readers may say we shall end up eventually with a fleet of Rolls-Royces. Not so: the larger cars now earned will have to be kept by continued good motoring. What goes up can come down.
