T'HE advent a the roll-on/off ferry era has I brought with it a demand for door-to-door deliveries to destinations beyond our shores. More and more transport operators are being asked to quote for through loads that hitherto would automatically have been sent to the docks for onward dispatch by convenient vessels,
In an endeavour to help such operators— who are often faced with the decision whether to accept an invitation to quote or whether to pass on such inquiries to the handful of specialists, with the possibility of losing a valuable customer—" The Commercial Motor" has compiled this up-to-date guide to shipping companies who now offer regular sailings to Scandinavia, Europe, Ireland, the Scottish islands and several of our off-shore islands. Future Ferries
THE above is merely a guide to commercial vehicle services and does not include the multifarious unit load vessels which carry containers. Lancashire fiats and demountable tanks. Neitherdoes it take account of the ferry services that are due to operate in the future. Whilst news of these is, with few exceptions, sketchy, at least eight new services have been announced. They are: Between Tilbury and Calais (by Stena Line, scheduled to commence this month); between Southampton and Rouen (by Mann and Son (London) Ltd., due to start in January, 1966); between Hull and Rotterdam (by North Sea Ferries Ltd., commencing during the Autumn, 1965); between Immingham, Amsterdam. and Gothenburg (by TOR Line, scheduled for April, 1966); Felixstowe and Copenhagen (by The Fisher Lines, commencing early in L966); Southampton and Vigo (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal) and Gibraltar (Kloster Kederie A.S., scheduled for May, 1966); between Aberdeen! Granvin and Arendal (Norway) (by Norwegian operators who have appointed John Cook and Son of Aberdeen as their agents --service to commence during 1966), and between Harwich■ Holland.and Norway (by Fred Olsen Line, due to commence " before 1967 ").
