Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

(what the technical journals said of the Austin FJ)

"I have seldom been as pleased with any vehicle in this weight category" says Commercial MOM'S technical editor. A. J. P. Wilding, A.M.I. Mech. E., M.I.R.T.E., who tested an Austin FJ 5 ton ner, dropside, says in his report : "Apart from the welldesigned and luxurious tilt cab, the FJ has an up-to-date braking system, five-speed ENV synchromesh gearbox and other good points ... I have driven few better vehicles

BMC deserves praise as the only company offering as standard on all models in this range, a brake system with adequate safety features to cater for failure ... a good deal of thought has been paid to making the driver's life easy ... the four headlamp system was found to be very good ...excellent accessibility is provided when the , cab is tilted ...There is also good access to engine components by raising a panel , I I have seldom been as pleased with any vehicle in this weight category from the performance, ease of handling and general driver comfort angles." "Sheer pleasure to drive and ride in" say Commercial Vehicles.

B. R. Mathews, who tested an FJ 5 tanner, says in his report : "This range offers operator and driver what they have been wanting for years. The FJ excelled itself in precise handling, smooth riding and cab comfort. The cab provides luxury accommodation for three, interior trim is lavish. In traffic the quick response of engine and braking system, lightness of steering and pedals, make the driver's lot an easy one. I found the brakes beyond reproach. Rightly BMC has standardized on air pressure for power assistance. Even more praiseworthy is the decision to provide two independent air pressure circuits, controlling two hydraulic circuits, for actuating the brakes on each axle. Other safety aspects: good visibility, windscreen washers, large rear mirrors, four headlamps. I would consider the FJ

a sound investment in safety and reliability. I Besides, I should never be short of drivers I" For a reprint of the full road test reports, please write to Longbridge.
