Newcastle upon. Tyne Corporation transport department that men trained as bus drivers were not adhering to their contract to stay with the Corporation for at least 12 months after obtaining their driving licences. Drivers doing so were required to repay wages paid to them during training, but the department was having difficulty recovering these amounts. The Corporation has agreed on new terms whereby drivers pay £20 to the Corporation if they leave the service less than 12 months after being trained as drivers.
