Ma_ G. W. HAVTER has been elected chairman of the Northern Section of the Institute of Transport for 194344, whilst Ma. A. H. J. BOWN and MR. A. S. BuSWELL have been appointed vice-chairmen.
Ma. G. J. MULLANY, of Harding Bros. Transport, Ltd., Liverpool, has been elected chairman of the Road Transport Section of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. He follows Mr. H. Allan, the acting chairman, who withdrew under the rules of the Section. Mr. A. E. Handscombe, the vicechairman, resigned in consequence of his absence from Liverpool, having become a unit controller, and MR. W. MCCREADY, of McCready Bros.. becomes the new vice-chairman.
MR. F. COYLE, National Officer, Passenger Services Group of the Transport and General Workers' Union, has been elected chairman of the National Council for the Omnibus Industry for the ensuing year. MR. J. S. Watts, an executive .director of the British Electric Traction Co., Ltd., and chairman of the Conference of Omnibus Companies, has been elected vice-chairman. MR. ERIC D. CROFT, M.A.., B.Sc.,
secretary of the Public Transport Association, has been appointed joint secretary (employers' side) ; he was also recently appointed secretary to the Conference of Omnibus Companies.
MR. J. S. Watts has been elected chairman of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., in place of MR. S. E. GARCKE, who has resigned this position but will retain a seat on the board. The Ribble Company is one of the B.E.T. group. Other changes in the group are as follow ;—Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd., MR. R. T. EBREY has been appointed general manager to succeed MR. W. T. James, who has resigned totake up an appointment at B.E.T. headquarters; East Yorkshire Motor. Services, Ltd., MR. C. R. H. WREATHALL has become general manager, replacing Mr. .R. T. Ebreya Hebble Motor Services, Ltd., MR. A. J. WHITE, of -the Western Welsh Company, has been appointed general manager in which position he replaces Mr. C. R. H. Wreathall. All these appointments will take effect on September 1. It is interesting to note the possibilities of progress which are held out to ,officials of what were formerly independent operators. These are iastanced by the cases of Messrs. James and White.
