Self-propelled Vehicles in the Service of German Fire Brigades.
By the courtesy of Herr Reichel, corn, mander of the Berlin Fire Brigades, an enthusiastic pioneer in the service -of mechanically-propelled vehicles for tire-extinguishing purposes, I am in a position to give a complete summary of the actual status of such automobiles in Germany. Up tu the present, 27 brigades have included them in their rolling StOck, the categories and number of vehicles in each being as follow :— Steam-driven vehicles 20 Eiectromobiles 24 Petrol-driven vehicles TO
Total in 19o8... 54 To this total there must be added, one -steam-driven vehicle and 13 electromobiles, which have already been placed on order for early delivery, and, if we _add three electromobiles which are to be ordered, we get, for 1909, these statistics :- Steam-driven vehicles 21 Electromobiles Petrol-driven vehicles so Total in 1909._ 71 No German brigade can at present claim uniformity of rolling stock,
-.horsed and mechanical vehicles workingside by side, but I give the various cate
gories, beginning with the petrol class, petting " r." for radius of action, and_ " gep.m." for gallons of water thrown -per minute, where particulars are obtainable
