TruckEast's Biggin takes over as chair of NFDA truck council

By Kevin Swallow

JOHN BIGGIN, the MD of Scania dealership TruckEast, is the new chairman of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) truck council.

He succeeds David Grant, chairman of Mercedes-Benz dealer Orwell Truck & Van, who is stepping down after many years in the role. Earlier this year Imperial Holdings, the South African parent company of UK dealer group Imperial Commercials, bought Orwell Truck & Van for an undisclosed sum (CM 21 February 2013).

During his time as chairman Grant played a pivotal role in negotiations with Vosa over issues involving dealership tractor units taking trailers to test stations, increasing first time pass rates at franchised dealers, and the introduction of authorised testing facilities (ATFs).

"I am delighted to take on the role of NFDA truck council chairman," said Biggin (right), "and look forward to once again supporting the industry through the fresh challenges that lie ahead.

"The truck council works hard to ensure it represents its members' views, concerns and interests at all levels and across the whole industry. This is an ethos I fully support and I will continue to promote this in the coming months."

Sue Robinson, NFDA director, said she was extremely pleased Biggin had taken on the role. "He brings a wealth of knowledge to the position and I know he will continue to drive NFDA Truck and Van forward. I wish him all the very best in the role.

"All here at the NFDA look forward to working closely with him again and seeing the NFDA Truck and Van sector move forward and thrive."
