Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Fuel-wise, the Merc and the Iveco Daily are similar, the German gaining the honours on A-roads and losing it on motorways. Overall, the Sprinter came out at a reasonable 18.2mpg. Journey times were similar in both cases. Neither truck did much to improve greatly on the fuel figures achieved by the best 7.5-tonners, though.

If ultimate volume is your target, then you may find the M-B solution a bit restrictive. Even with the longer of the two wheelbase options, the maximum body length is 4,725mm, compared with the Iveco's 5,335mm.

Our body contained a volume of 20.2m3, with the maximum possible being around 24.0m3. Surprisingly, given its van-based chassis, the Sprinter weighs no less than the Iveco, so its half-tonne GVW deficit translates into a similar payload loss.
