Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Overloading checks are to soar by 60% in Kent, one of the UK's busiest regions for trucks.

Kent County Council has had a £60,000 boost for its Trading Standards department's truck check budget.

Now the authority expects to carry out about 100 spot checks in the 1992-93 financial year, compared with only 40 the previous year.

Kent's truck check budget had been cut because Trading Standards departments had to cope with extra duties under the Food Safety Act.

"Drivers of overloaded vehicles now face an increased risk of getting caught," warns Kent Trading Standards chief John Simmonds. "This is good news for the people of Kent."

From April three new members will join Kent's roadside checks team.
