• An application by Continuous Haulage Constructors Ltd., of Bury, for a new B licence for 25 tippers was adjourned in Manchester on Tuesday, when the applicant failed to attend the public inquiry. Of the 25 vehicles applied for, 19 were over 5 tons unladen weight.

Mr. J. A. Backhouse, for the objectors, told the North Western deputy LA, Mr. P. G. Hayward, that following an amendment to the condition attached to the vehicles, to which the applicant company had agreed, his objection would not be pursued. Following this agreement, said Mr. Backhouse, perhaps the applicant no longer thought that he needed to attend the hearing.
