Drin.<.s giant Britvic has shaken up its distribution operation and left several regional hauliers lacking in fizz. Dominic Perry reports.

CM EXCLUSIVE SEVERAL WELL-KNOWN family firms are set to be left high and dry by a shake-up in Britvic's distribution operation.

Some haul iersvvho have worked for Britvic for several decades will be affected when their contracts expire on 10 April.

Distribution is currently handled by Leeds-based GW Sissons; James Irlam & Sons:Sittingbourne operator Dodds Grourcurriesof Dumfries and East Anglian hauliers Derek Cooper Transport and Bartrums Haulage & Storage.

Now Britvic has decided to hand the lion's share of the work to logistics multinational Wincanton. Baru-ums and Derek Cooper will he retained in some capacity. probably to manage distribution from Britvic's plant in Norwich into its Magna Park National Distribution Centre. Among the firms left out in the cold.GW Sissons has a 20-year relationship with Brilvic. MD Bryan Sissons comments: "I'm disappointed, but we live to fight another day."

A number of Sissons staff will transfer across to Wincanton under TU PE regulations.

Also losing out is Kent firm Dodds Group. Transport manager Graham Pask says: "We're disappointed to have lost business and in the way that we've lost it.

"We've done our best to support Britvic and despite our best efforts it's been taken away without any real consultation. When you're delivering what's required in terms of performance it makes you wonder why you're losing the work."

Britvic's brands include Pepsi. Rohinsons and Tango.
