Hooper says Britain can learn a lot from the way truck crime is handled in France.
There, the gendarmerie treat truck c•ime as high priority. There is one major police unit that deals specifically with the issue-a bit like the FBI.
Although the office is based in Paris, detectives from the unit travel to any part of the country to investigate crime.
And while the French police tend to ignore minor offences such as curtain slashing and diesel thefts, transient ctiminals are hit hard on the motorways and the transport networks.
They are particularly keen to crack down on hijacks and have a strong team dealing with truck crime at Paris Charles Be Gaulle airport.
