Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

where they left off last year. well above the long-term average. The total dipped in the second half of last year but we expect some growth in the next 12 months, with continued and broad based demand for commercial vehicles.

However, continuing confusion over the exact timing for the introduction of digital tachographs has been distorting truck demand, and the introduction of the Euro-4 emission standard later this year will continue this trend.

Ian Norwell. PR manager. commercial vehicles, Mercedes-Benz UK All markets are down slightly, but there are no real surprises. Although medium and heavy van sales are up slightly its a bit too early to get excited by Digital tachographs will have an impact, but it wont be great. All our production from now on is 100% equipped with digital tachographs. We've let our customer base know that and recommend they make preparations for it We've had to encourage customers and make them aware that it's on its way and that they should get organised particularly those ordering rigids where the long lead-times mean they have been ordered earlier for registration after the deadline. We've been keeping an eye out on their behalf.

I think possibly the big issue will be driver cards rather than operator readiness.

In terms of Euro-4 we are not seeing any evidence of buying forward, which is what we could come to expect. The fact that there's very little financial incentive to upgrade early will also have an effect on Euro-4 take-up.

If you look elsewhere in Europe there are very few countries which are not offering money or rebates for early adopters. As to the future, to be honest looking further forward than Euro-4 is a bit fruitless.
